Originally hailing locally from Monifieth, Susan now lives in Perthshire where she is inspired by the diverse local wildlife and her Scottish surrounding which translate into her oil and watercolour artworks. Susan graduated from Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art in Dundee with an honours degree in Illustration & Printmaking in 1990.
For over ten years Susan has worked as a Freelance Illustrator and during this time has completed many commissions, including Publishers such as Scholastic, Oxford University Press and Orchard. Furthermore, commissioned by Dundee City council, Susans illustrative work contributed to a permanent local history exhibition.
Taking inspiration from the diverse local wildlife and enjoy creating representational depictions of the fox, hare, mice & bird life. The subjects of Susans pieces are inspired by her upbringing in a local agricultural community. Meaning sheep and cattle are often found in her work. Dog breeds also feature frequently in Susans work and her skill for capturing the true character of ‘mans best friend’ is admirable, from sympathetic and doe-eyed, flat faced dogs to quietly curious, sculpted canines.
