Louise Turnbull

Louise Turnbull is a landscape painter based in Leven, Fife. Following a career in health and social care, Louise returned to painting in 2010 and has since developed a bold, expressive style which she balances with considered decision-making on composition, colour and tonality to resolve paintings that are both lively and intuitive.

An essential part of Louise’s practice is feeling free to respond to colour and texture intuitively. This begins with big, bold, loose and colourful mark-making which is gradually refined to consider what to concentrate on, leave out, change or abandon. With the focus being on staying open and alert to the possibilities the work is revealing to her, the artist’s instinct is fundamental.

Louise’s work can be found in private collections in the UK and internationally. She has exhibited at Pitteenweem Arts Festival as well as in select galleries across Scotland.
