Lisa Houston

Lisa Houston is an artist based in Ardnamurchan, she lives on the edge of Loch Sunart, amidst Corbetts, glens and lochs and not too far from the open sea and Ardnamurchan Lighthouse – the most westerly point of the British mainland.

Immersed in these wild and rugged surroundings, the ever-changing weather brings a unique quality of light that washes over the landscape. It’s this light and atmosphere that inspires Lisa to paint, endeavouring to make sense of it through mark-making and by developing a painterly language of her own.

Beginning in sketchbooks, she records the lines, shapes and colours seen in the landscape using pastel, ink and charcoal. Back in her studio, on the shores of Loch Sunart, Lisa draws upon her observations, often incorporating elements from numerous sketches, refining her work in order to produce finished works in oil or mixed media.
