Janette Sumner

Based in Edinburgh, Jannette Sumner is a mixed media and collage artist. Inspired by the nature that she comes across when out walking, Janette’s artworks closely observe the minute details, such as intricate crevices in rock faces holding tiny flowers, or tidal rivulets swirling around the rock pools. She endeavours to record these elements and discover how they interact with each other.

Working in mixed media, Janette aims to replicate the feeling of spontaneity that she finds in observing the freedom and energy of the natural world. Layering collage papers made with inks and natural materials, such as mulberry tissue and dried seaweed, nature is woven into the work to create layers and depth, characterising the landscape.

Janette has exhibited across the UK, including with the Society of Scottish Artists at the Royal Scottish Academy in Edinburgh. Her work can be found in galleries across Scotland.
