Francis Boag

Francis Boag was born in 1948 in Dundee and is now regarded as one of the foremost contemporary painters in Scotland. He studied at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art, Dundee in the late sixties, where his tutors included Alberto Morrocco and David McClure, whose influence can be readily seen in his use of colour and sensuous application of paint.

Francis Boag’s vivid depictions of the rural hinterland and coastline of the North East have made him perhaps one of the best loved contemporary painters working in Scotland. A master of colour and form, his canvases are a beautiful balance between an intellectual interpretation of a landscape and an emotional response to it.

Francis graduated from Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art, Dundee, in the late sixties and after many years in teaching. He now paints full-time near the coastal village of Stonehaven. His work appears in private and public collections the world over.
