Born in Falkirk, 1957, Charles studied at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art, Dundee, between 1978 and 1982, under such artistic luminaries as Alberto Morrocco and David McClure.

During visits to Italy, Spain and Portugal, Charles was inspired by the warmth of light and rich colour provided by the towns and landscapes of the Mediterranean, which lead to the creation of his unique signature style and distinctive palette. Today ‘Monteith’ is widely regarded as one of Scotlands most original and creative landscape painters.
