Kate Bentley RI RSW | Kimono
This November we are thrilled to be hosting an artist who is brand new to Eduardo Alessandro Studios. In these latest works, Kate Bentley celebrates the beauty and symbol of the kimono. Works of art in and of themselves, these garments express personal identity and histories, making them the perfect vehicle for Kate’s own narrative layering. Mimicking the complexity of these stories, the surfaces of her artworks are multi-layered to create a depth that is truly unique and compelling.
We are so privileged to host this exhibition of works depicting traditional Kimono especially in Dundee where the V&A is currently hosting their ‘Kimono: Kyoto to Catwalk’ Exhibition, exploring the evolution and influence of Japan’s ancient dress. Inspired by both the human form and her interest in Kimono’s. Capturing the beauty of the intricate details and patterns of Japanese Kimono this body of work highlights the artists capability to work in fine detail all while adding depth and drama.
Kate is a member of the Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolour and the Society of Women Artists, with her work held in both private and public collections.
