Born in Wakefield, West Yorkshire, Stewart grew up in Lochgilphead, Argyll, and now lives in Dumfries and Galloway. He studied at Glasgow Caledonian University between 1988 and 1992, and has been a full-time artist since 1995.
He travels extensively throughout Scotland where he finds his wide diversity of inspiration ranging from dramatic mountain ranges, and Glens, to tranquil beaches, harbours, or bustling towns and cities.
Stewart is renowned for his mature wet watercolour technique which superbly captures the movement, atmosphere and character of his subjects.
